Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. Acquires 26 Restaurants from Franchisee, Trefz & Trefz, Inc.
Atlanta, GA  (Restaurant News Release)  Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. (ARG), franchisor of the iconic, Fast Crafted™ Arby’s® restaurant brand with more than 3,300 restaurants worldwide, announced this week that it has acquired all 26 Arby’s restaurantsfrom long-standing franchisee, Trefz & Trefz, Inc.
Over the course of more than 45 years, brothers Oren and Paul Trefz have successfully opened numerous Arby’s restaurants in three states across the Southeast United States.  At the time of ARG’s acquisition, the Trefz bothers owned and operated eight restaurants in the Augusta, GA DMA, 10 restaurants in the Charlotte, NC DMA and eight restaurants in the Columbia, SC DMA.  In addition to acquiring the restaurants, more than 600 former Trefz employees transitioned to ARG employment as part of the transaction.
“Oren and Paul Trefz have been incredible operators and ambassadors of the Arby’s brand,” said Paul Brown, CEO of Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc.  “We are thankful for their dedication to Arby’s and passion for the business. We welcome their restaurants and employees into the ARG portfolio and are excited to deliver the same delicious experiences to our guests in those areas where the Trefz family has operated for the last 45 years.”
I’m very proud to have owned and operated Arby’s restaurants for the last 45 years,” said Oren Trefz.  “Turning over the keys is very bittersweet for me, but I can’t imagine a better time to do it with Arby’s current leadership team. I have full confidence in the continued growth of the brand.”
ARG officially assumed management of the restaurants on Monday, July 27.
Announcement of the deal comes on the heels of Arby’s Q2 2015 sales announcement last week. Arby’s achieved significant system same-store sales (SSS) growth of 7.6 percentversus the same quarter last year, outperforming a representative sample of the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry by an estimated 5.3 percentage points*, and representing the company’s 19th consecutive quarter of SSS growth.  Comparable two-year system sales are up 13.8 percent for the quarter.
Additionally, Arby’s has accelerated new restaurant development and system remodels with the “Inspire” restaurant design. Through the first two quarters of the year, the Brand has opened 18 new restaurants and completed 53 remodels system-wide. On average, Arby’s remodeled restaurants are experiencing sustained sales increases of approximately 15 percent with some experiencing increases of 20 percent or more. Arby’s is scheduled to open 60 new restaurants and complete more than 160 remodels system-wide through the end of the year.
Arby’s remains on track with its goal to surpass $4 billion in system-wide total sales by the end of 2018.  Arby’s has produced an 8.5 percent increase in system SSS through the first half of 2015.
