Carl’s Jr. (US) Targets Australian Market

Aug 13, 2013

07 Mar 2013 – Carl’s Jr. is ready to debut in the Australian market, with plans to open 300 stores within 10 to 15 years. According to Smart Company, the chain is currently seeking franchisees for the market.

Carl’s Jr. has a fledgling presence in nearby New Zealand, where it has opened eight restaurants in the past 18 months.

CEO Andy Puzder told Smart Company that Australia is an attractive market, with a strong economy that complements the brand’s positioning and food offerings.

However, Carl’s Jr.’s Australia plans have been met with some resistance. Some health experts have called for a ban on the brand because of rising obesity rates in the country, according to The Daily Telegraph.
