Earlier this month we released an article about Education franchising in 2021-2022. If you haven’t read it yet, you might want to start there as it reviews a lot of the reasons companies are so interested in this exciting and profitable industry. You can find it on the VF Franchise Consulting website here: The Education Franchise industry 2021-2022.
Even within the normally stable education franchising industry, the current pandemic had a significant impact on most schools and centers across the world. Many schools had to close temporarily and sadly some have never re-opened. Regardless of whether we talk about English centers, Math programs, Kindergartens, or other related concepts, independent operators found 2020 to be a tough year. However, this situation did highlight why being part of a global education brand like Wings, Qooco, Mathnasium, or Helen Doron is so advantageous.
Over the past 15 years in Asia, I have been an entrepreneur in the education industry as well as helped international education brands expand into a new territory. This experience has taught me both the advantages and disadvantages of both options.
Please note, that this article will not address “distance education” as in getting some form of university degree online. It is focused on the franchise or license industry which covers childhood education, Math, English, other language, and kindergartens.
There is no perfect answer to this one. That’s why here at VF Franchise Consulting we represent multiple education brands all with unique features. With a wide variety of markets and a similar wide variety of companies all with different objectives and investment levels, there is no “perfect” or “best” franchise to own.
However, we do help companies pick the best education franchise for their company, to meet their strategic plan, and for their territory on a regular basis. With some information about your specific situation, we would be happy to provide this free service to you as well. Please contact us at robert@vffranchiseconsulting.com.
Many people ask also about the easiest franchise to open. Normally, they are speaking of a simple to operate business on a day to day basis. The good thing about education franchises is that in most cases you do not need extensive experience in this industry. Of course you have to hire some staff who understand education, but as a franchisee local area knowledge, general business acumen, and a bit of sales & marketing knowledge is what is really important. For specific easy to operate brands see the section below about Qooco and Wings.

There are quite a number of steps to getting an education (or any) franchise.

In general terms, as we focus on the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and Asia region, we only represent education brands that are suitable for the markets we cover so any of the brands we share on our website have a high chance of suitability for your specific market.
As of the time of writing we represent Young Innovators, Helen Doron, Mathriders, Qooco, Wings, Englisheye, Mathnasium, and Scholastic. You can get more details on them here: VF Franchise Consulting – Franchises for sale in Southeast (South East) Asia
As we are talking specifically about online education, let’s focus on two brands which do this very efficiently. Qooco and Wings.
Qooco is a very unique brand in that it doesn’t use traditional classroom teaching at all. It effectively teaches English for children, business English for adults, and Mandarin just 15 min / day on your own device at your own convenience. Coupled with a weekly coach meeting in the center, bookable time with live native English speakers, and some group extracurricular social events it provides amazing results. All of it handled through a single app with ongoing analytical information to let the student, parents, teachers, and coaches know the progress.
One of the great things about Qooco for potential franchisees is their attractive business model, where you can get involved for under $100k usd. They let investors reserve small or large territories depending on the investor’s choice. Centers are smaller than a normal language school, so less costly both for upfront investment and for ongoing operating expenses. It has always been, and continues to be, an option that doesn’t require in-class teaching.
Qooco is available for Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, and many others.

As it has for the past decades, Education remains as one of the best choices in franchising. As Covid-19 continues to affect the industry in 2021, and likely to have continued impact for the next couple years, picking educational solutions that can effectively overcome the challenge is vital.
