Mohaimina Haque, who took over as CEO of Tony Roma’s in August last year, believes advanced technology will soon become essential in reshaping the restaurant industry. “My vision is to be ahead of the curve when it comes to technological innovation,” Haque shared. “We want to apply AI in every area — from enhancing customer service to improving inventory management and back-of-house efficiency.”
Under the new “Tony Roma’s 2.0” strategy, Haque is reimagining the F&B franchise model with technology embedded at every operational level.

Currently, Tony Roma’s operates nearly 60 locations worldwide — a drop from its peak of 200 units in the 1990s and 2000s. However, this tech-driven strategy is designed to accelerate its domestic expansion in the U.S., where it now has just 10 units.
“Technology shouldn’t replace people — it should empower them,” Haque emphasized. “AI and robotics are not about cutting jobs; they’re about making jobs smarter, faster, and more efficient.”
From predictive analytics for inventory management to smart sensors for kitchen equipment maintenance, Tony Roma’s plans to leverage AI to help franchisees make better business decisions.
AI tools will analyze sales trends, customer preferences, and menu performance to guide pricing strategies and product offerings. Additionally, robotics is expected to assist with meal preparation and customer service — ensuring consistency and speed without sacrificing the personal touch.
“Maybe in a few years, Maître d’s will be robots,” Haque joked. “But seriously, the pace of innovation is staggering. The future of F&B franchise operations will be heavily dependent on AI and robotics — it’s inevitable.”
Tony Roma’s is already working with franchising tech platform Delightree to create AI-enhanced training manuals for staff across its global network.
According to Haque, adopting AI and robotics isn’t just about staying trendy — it’s about staying competitive.
“In two to five years, I believe most businesses — especially in the F&B franchise industry — will be deeply reliant on AI and robotics,” she predicted. “Technology allows us to make informed decisions, reducing costly mistakes from gut feelings or guesswork.”
