5 REASONS KIDS SHOULD LEARN TO CODE

Coding is one of the most in-demand skills in the current job market, but kids don’t have to wait until they’re in college to start learning to code. In fact, kids can learn to grasp coding concepts as early as pre-school! In addition to being an incredibly marketable skill, coding knowledge can boost kids’ creativity, critical thinking skills, and confidence! Here are five reasons all kids should learn to code:

1/ Learning to code can help kids with other skills

Learning coding languages can help kids with their verbal and written skills, just like learning any language can! The earlier kids are exposed to foreign languages, the better. Coding languages are no different; coding is simply the language of technology.

Teaching kids to code helps them hone their problem-solving skills and teaches them there are multiple ways to look at a problem and find a solution. In fact, studies show that learning to code boosts kids’ overall performance at school. Children who learn to code early on also learn how to organize their thoughts in a way that is very conducive to high academic performance.

2/ Coding has real-world applications

One of the reasons many kids struggle with math classes is because they have a hard time recognizing how certain math skills correspond to the world around them. Coding can help kids understand the real-world applications of mathematics. Many educators find that coding is a great way to make math fun!

3/ Teaching your kids to code sets them up for success

In this digital age, coding knowledge is a new form of literacy. Learning to code can help kids connect with the technology around them while also getting them interested from an early age in potential career paths like computer programming and engineering. Coding is a necessary skill in almost every industry now, not just computer science. Whether your child is interested in a career in engineering, healthcare, finance, or even the arts, coding skills can help give them a leg up!

4/ Coding knowledge boosts confidence

Like with any skill, practice makes perfect, and it’s easy for kids to catch on quickly when learning how to code. The more they learn, the more confident they will feel in their accomplishments. Many parents notice big boosts in their kids’ confidence when they learn to code.

5/ Coding expands creativity

Many people think STEM education is totally separate from the arts and more creative endeavors, but learning to code can actually spark kids’ creativity. Not only does coding give kids the chance to create something on their own, but it also encourages them to think outside the box. Coding requires kids to think experimentally, which helps them hone their creative thinking skills.

Now that we’ve discussed why kids SHOULD learn to code, let’s talk about HOW they can learn!

Bricks 4 Kidz is now offering innovative virtual classes where kids can learn STEM concepts from the comfort of their own homes.
