Top American and Asian franchisors meet with franchisees and investors in Vietnam
Jul 3, 2019
Fourteen international franchisors will gather at VF Franchise Consulting headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on July 9, 2019, to meet with prospective area or master franchisees for Vietnam. Participating franchises are in food and beverage, education, services, and come from the USA, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, India, and Japan. The event is organized by VF Franchise Consulting, Asia’s leading franchise consultancy with offices in Vietnam and Singapore.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there are over 200 foreign brands registered in Vietnam, and the number of international brands that are seeking to enter Vietnam continues to grow 15 – 20% annually. Sean T. Ngo, Founder and CEO of VF Franchise Consulting, adds “With nearly 95 million citizens, Vietnam has one of the fastest growth rates when it comes to franchising and licensing. Franchises that do well are in the F&B, education, retail, and services sectors. Goldman Sachs predicted that Vietnam will be the 20th largest economy in the world by the year 2050.”
Franchises already present in Vietnam include KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Lotteria, Burger King, Starbucks, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, PJ’s Coffee, Baskin Robbins, Dunkin Donuts, Texas Chicken, Popeye’s Chicken, Jollibee, and many more.
The fourteen participating franchise brands include ACE International (#1 home improvement franchise with over 5,200 stores and in 60+ countries), Little Caesars Pizza (#1 Takeaway Pizza chain from the USA), Coldstone Creamery (leading premium ice cream chain from the USA), Mango Tree (leading Thai casual dining chain from Thailand), Mango Chili (fast-casual Thai dining), Cha Ji Tang (Taiwanese fragrant hot and cold herbal/flower tea), Yang Xiang Ting (Taiwanese dim sum on a conveyor belt), Fidele (American inspired seafood and pizza), Bing Girl (Taiwanese sweet dessert), Machida Shoten (Japan’s #2 ramen chain), and Mennya Kokoro (wildly popular Japanese dry-ramen chain).
Franchise executives representing all of these major brands will be in HCMC to meet with potential franchisees who will commit to open multiple units over a period of time.
One of the participating franchises is Scholastic World of English. Scholastic World of English is an innovative and e-interactive English learning program for young English learners, taught using carefully developed learner-and teacher-friendly instructional software. Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books. With 100 years of experience in helping children learn to read and love to read, Scholastic learning programs are highly trusted by educators and teachers around the world. Scholastic World of English is the company’s latest early English literacy program designed to help children master foundational language skills.
According to Selina Lee, Vice President of Scholastic Asia, “What sets Scholastic World of English apart is the extensive support that has been created for teachers, empowering teachers from any background or experience to deliver effective and engaging instructions in the classroom.”
English language instruction for non-native speakers is a fast growing business sector, estimated at USD63 billion a year industry and with nearly 2 billion people learning English worldwide. Ngo adds, “Education in Vietnam and Asia is seen as a major investment opportunity for parents who wish for their children to have a better future than themselves. Children with the ability to speak and write English have better future educational and career opportunities than those without these skills. In addition, education spend per family in Asia is the highest in the world, and Vietnam’s spend per child as a percentage of household incomes is among the highest in Asia.”
Another leading franchise from Thailand, Mango Tree, will be seeking its first franchisee for its Mango Tree brand in Vietnam. According to its Managing Director, Trevor MacKenzie, “Mango Tree is one of the world’s most innovative and best-known Thai culinary lifestyle brands, serving contemporary Thai cuisine from authentic classics to modern updates to old favourites, complemented by creative mixology, expertly curated music, and buzzing locations. Mango Tree currently has over 45 locations and is in nine countries so far.”
Cha Ji Tang
Taiwanese bubble milk tea chains continue to be highly popular in Vietnam, and Cha Ji Tang from Taiwan is seeking a master franchisee for Vietnam. Cha Ji Tang currently has stores in Taiwan, Vietnam, and in discussions with various parties for the Philippines, Korea, and Japan. According to Andy Hsu, owner of Rengfeng Brands, the parent company of Cha Ji Tang, “We are very excited about introducing our successful F&B franchises (Cha Ji Tang, Bingirl, Yan Xiang Ting, and Fidele) to Vietnam. Taiwanese food and drinks are very popular in many countries, and we believe many Vietnamese will appreciate and enjoy authentic cuisine from Taiwan.”
Minimum investment levels for the fourteen franchise brands range from USD300,000 and USD3,000,000.
