% Arabica opens its first roastery in Indonesia

The Japanese boutique café group is seeking to establish itself as a ‘key player’ in Indonesia’s coffee industry and has opened a roastery in Jakarta to cater to increasing demand for the % Arabica brand

% Arabica has responded to increasing demand for its coffee in Indonesia by opening its first roasting facility in the country.

The Jakarta-based roastery is % Arabica’s fourth location in the Indonesian capital and its fifth in the country following the opening of its Bali store in August 2022. 

Designed by Paris-based architects Ciguë, the store features a central roastery, which houses a vintage Probat UG22 coffee roaster, alongside a café serving % Arabica’s specialty coffee menu. 

The roastery will supply coffee beans for % Arabica’s Indonesian outlets. The UG22 can roast approximately 22kg of coffee beans per batch. 

“The opening of % Arabica Jakarta Roastery is part of our commitment as a key player in the coffee industry in the country. The increased capacity the roastery brings will mean that we will be able to supply the growing market demand for % Arabica’s excellent coffee,” said Astrid Kusumadewi, General Manager, % Arabica Indonesia. 

Indonesia is % Arabica’s joint fourth largest market – alongside Singapore – by outlets. The boutique café group opened its first store in the country in February 2021 and now operates 134 outlets globally.  

The Kyoto-based coffee chain also launched its first roastery in Oman in November 2022, adding to roasteries in Cambodia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and the US.
