Dine Brands Global—the parent company of IHOP, Applebee’s, and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop restaurants. More about expansion plans and franchise opportunities worldwide.
The Role of Franchise Opportunities in Dine Brands’ Recovery Post – 2020
In 2020, Dine Brands Global faced big challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, dine-in services at Applebee’s and IHOP dropped a lot. To adapt, the company focused more on takeout and delivery options. However, this change couldn’t fully make up for the lost dine-in sales. Additionally, Dine Brands cut costs and temporarily closed some locations to manage the financial pressure.
By 2021 and 2022, Dine Brands began to recover. Takeout and delivery became permanent parts of their business model. Moreover, both Applebee’s and IHOP showed steady sales growth.
By 2024, Dine Brands had fully embraced its international growth strategy. A subsidiary of Dine Brands Global, Inc.—the parent company of Applebee’s, IHOP, and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop—is opening the first dual-branded restaurant in Honduras. This is part of a development deal with franchisee BLT Global Brands.
At the new restaurant, guests can enjoy IHOP’s breakfast offerings alongside Applebee’s wide-ranging casual dining menu. This innovative design brings variety to customers while enhancing efficiency for franchise owners.
Guests at the new restaurant will enjoy the best of both worlds, with IHOP’s popular breakfast menu and Applebee’s diverse casual dining options, all under one roof. The dual-branded design not only offers variety for customers but also boosts better operations for franchisees.
“We’re thrilled to bring IHOP and Applebee’s to Honduras. The country’s rich culture and growing economy make it a perfect fit for this dual-branded concept,” said Thomas Christopher Talarico, CEO of BLT Global Brands.
Scott Gladstone, Chief Development Officer at Dine Brands Global, added, “By leveraging IHOP’s morning success and Applebee’s evening popularity, we can offer memorable dining experiences all day long. We’ve seen strong results from our dual-branded restaurants so far.”
Dine Brands plans to open 21 more locations in various international markets, including 13 dual-branded restaurants. These locations already operate in countries like Mexico, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, the company is seeking franchisees in regions such as Asia, Europe, Brazil, and Mexico. This effort is part of their long-term plan to grow their brand and enter new markets.
