Food company Dongwon pushes to acquire franchise McDonald’s South Korea

Dongwon Group, one of the biggest food company in South Korean, is making an effort to acquire McDonald’s in South Korea as part of their strategy to enhance their restaurant operations.

Sources indicate that Dongwon Industries Co., the holding company of the group, is currently the only interested party in the acquisition of McDonald’s Korea.

The group has completed the first inspection round and is currently in negotiations about the purchase price.

McDonald’s Korea is currently entirely owned by McDonald’s Corp. In 2016, a consortium led by Carlyle Group and Maeil Dairies Co. attempted to purchase the burger franchise, but the deal failed when Maeil abandoned the acquisition.

According to a spokesperson from McDonald’s Korea, the company is looking for a strategic franchise partner to promote growth and development in the Korean market and is evaluating various options. They will provide updates when appropriate.
