German Doner Kebab continues to expand franchise in US, Canada, Europe and Middle East

This year, the fast-casual company will launch 12 additional franchise locations across North America, and it has plans to grow much more.

As it gets ready to build 12 new outlets, German Doner Kebab (GDK) has revealed its ambitious growth plans for the United States. Astoria in Queens, New York, will open in February. GDK has announced that it will open a restaurant every month this year following the opening of its first U.S. site at American Dream Mall in New Jersey in 2021.

In the first quarter of 2023, three more locations are anticipated to open, including Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Sugar Land in Houston, Texas.

The following locations will have GDK stores in the next months: Mississauga, Ontario; Surrey, Vancouver, British Columbia; Houston Heights, Houston; Westfield, New Jersey; Frisco, Texas; and Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. This year, it’s anticipated that two more locations will welcome visitors.

With restaurants in Toronto, Ottawa, and Surrey, GDK’s presence in Canada will expand as a result of this development. With intentions to have over 500 locations in the following ten years, GDK now has 65 units in various stages of development around North America.

With his extensive expertise working with well-known brands including Five Guys Burgers, The Halal Guys, Freshii, and Rise Biscuits & Chicken, Mark Treptow, franchise director of GDK for North America, is assisting in this growth.

GDK is delivering a fresh, high-quality taste sensation to the kebab that is redefining the dish all over the world, making it the preferred location to eat kebabs. The kebabs are created with premium, lean, succulent meats and fresh local vegetables and are freshly prepared in front of guests in an open kitchen. They are served on homemade toasted bread with distinctive specialty sauces.

The brand, based in Glasgow, Scotland, has expanded its franchise throughout the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Middle East. With more than 140 restaurants worldwide, it is currently rapidly expanding throughout additional important areas in Europe, the United States, and Canada.

In order to support its goals for international expansion, the brand recently signed up a number of significant franchise partners. Atul Pathak, formerly the largest UK franchise partner for McDonald’s, sold his holdings and joined GDK in 2022. Additionally, the GDK master franchise for the United Arab Emirates has been purchased by Maristo Hospitality, one of the Middle East’s fastest-growing hospitality firms.

The managing director for North America, Nigel Belton, declares: “We have enormous intentions for the United States and Canada. With a larger GDK vision of over 500 sites in the following ten years, we are incredibly thrilled to announce our growth plans to launch 12 more restaurants in 2023. For us in the United States, the American Dream Mall in New Jersey has served as an anchor location. As we continue to grow in important states across North America, it has given us a platform from which to create brand-new, interesting sites like Astoria in Queens, Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Sugar Land, Houston.”

“The coming 12 months will prove to be a watershed in our tale,” he continues. As we create the fast-casual brand of the future, we want to increase our footprint and offer the distinctive GDK experience to more customers throughout the United States and Canada.
