Grab, Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and food delivery service, has acquired Chope, a prominent dining reservation platform based in Singapore. The exact terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but both companies confirmed the deal on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for Grab expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “The integration of Chope’s offerings will create significant synergies for our merchant partners, particularly in optimizing online-to-offline engagement opportunities.”

Grab emphasized its dedication to empowering small and medium-sized businesses, which constitute the majority of its merchants. The company aims to level the playing field by providing these businesses with the tools and resources they need to compete with larger brands.

Chope’s founder, Arrif Ziaudeen, explained the rationale behind the partnership: “In today’s competitive landscape, finding a strategic partner to drive sustainable growth is crucial. After a thorough evaluation, we determined that Grab is the ideal partner, given their mission to connect restaurants with diners, which aligns closely with our own objectives.”

Founded in 2011, Chope has expanded its presence to seven major cities: Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Phuket, Shanghai, Bali, and Jakarta. The platform features over 13,000 restaurants, making it a key player in the dining reservation space.

This acquisition marks a strategic move for Grab as it continues to diversify its offerings and strengthen its position in the food and beverage industry.
