Japanese restaurant chain Zensho buys Lotteria Japan

Japan’s Zensho Holdings, the company behind the popular Sukiya beef bowl chain, has announced its acquisition of burger franchise Lotteria from Lotte Holdings.

The deal will see Zensho take over all of Lotteria’s shares for an undisclosed sum on April 1, giving it ownership of the franchise’s 358 burger restaurants in Japan. Lotte Holdings hopes the move will help restructure the struggling chain and “pursue new growth.”

Although most of Zensho’s chains, like Sukiya, are directly managed, Lotteria operates mainly through franchising. It is worth noting that Zensho does not plan to alter the way that Lotteria runs its business.
