Olive Garden Enters India with First Restaurant in New Delhi — Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group Leads Franchise Debut in Aerocity

Darden Restaurants’ iconic American-Italian brand Olive Garden has entered India with its first restaurant at World St., Worldmark, Aerocity, New Delhi. The debut, brought to market by Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group (GIHG), marks one of the more visible international franchise entries into India’s premium family-dining segment in 2026 — and lands squarely in the country’s fastest-growing airport-lifestyle catchment.

The Deal — A Long-Form Franchise Partnership with Darden

Olive Garden’s India expansion is being spearheaded by Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group, a hospitality investor building a portfolio of curated international dining brands for Indian consumers. GIHG holds the India franchise rights from Darden International & Franchising, the international arm of NYSE-listed Darden Restaurants, which operates more than 900 Olive Garden restaurants globally and reported over four decades of family-style dining heritage.

The Delhi flagship, at Worldmark Aerocity, has been developed in collaboration with Bharti Real Estate — the developer behind Worldmark, which sits inside India’s Aerocity precinct next to Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Aerocity zone has emerged as one of India’s most competitive hospitality corridors, drawing multiple international F&B brands over the past 24 months.

Leadership Perspective — India as a Long-Term Play

Ramit Bharti Mittal, Executive Chairman and Director of Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group, described the launch as a natural progression of the group’s strategy of bringing “thoughtfully chosen, global dining icons to India.”

“This milestone marks an important step in shaping India’s premium, family-focused dining landscape.”

Brad Smith, President of Darden International & Franchising, said the group is “thrilled to partner with Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group to open our first Olive Garden in India here in Aero City, New Delhi.” Smith highlighted GIHG’s “deep restaurant experience” as the reason Darden expects the brand’s signature “never-ending American-Italian generosity” to travel well to Indian guests.

Why Aerocity Matters

S.K. Sayal, MD & CEO of Bharti Real Estate, positioned World St. at Worldmark as “The Social Spine of Worldmark” — a walkable culinary and lifestyle strip inside what he described as India’s finest global business district. The arrival of Olive Garden slots into a broader curation strategy that has drawn international brands to the precinct.

The Restaurant — Tuscan Design, Adapted Menu

The Aerocity flagship has been designed by Incubis Consultants around Olive Garden’s Tuscan cues — sun-washed tones, rustic textures, and warm lighting inspired by Italian countryside villas. Indoor and alfresco spaces have been planned for everyday dining, celebrations, and group gatherings.

Key India-market design and menu adaptations:

  • Full vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu lines to match Indian dining preferences
  • Signature global dishes including Chicken Alfredo, Lasagna Classico, Chicken Parmigiana, and the Tour of Italy platter
  • Every entrée served with the brand’s signature soup or salad and freshly baked breadsticks
  • Table-side freshly grated Parmesan and hearty pasta service
  • Indoor plus alfresco layout targeting family, celebration, and group-gathering occasions

Expansion Roadmap — Beyond the First Store

Following the Aerocity opening, Gourmet Investments Hospitality Group has publicly stated plans to expand Olive Garden across India, with NCR and other major metros in the pipeline. While the group has not disclosed a specific unit count or geographic sequencing, the Aerocity flagship is being positioned as the anchor for a multi-city buildout.

What This Means for the India Franchise Story

Olive Garden’s arrival extends a clear 2026 trend of American casual-dining brands entering India through master franchise partnerships with well-capitalised local groups. In the last twelve months the market has seen entries and expansion announcements from a string of international restaurant chains, most of them structured as long-form franchise agreements with an Indian operating partner rather than direct entry.

For international brands, the appeal is clear: India offers a fast-growing premium consumer base, deep restaurant labour supply, and a rising tolerance for family-style Western dining. For local franchise partners like GIHG, brands with established global systems, menu playbooks, and supply chains reduce operating risk and accelerate scale-up. The Aerocity flagship becomes the proof point that will decide whether Olive Garden’s next stores in NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru come faster or slower.
