Paris Baguette opens its first store in Canada

Paris Baguette has opened its first store in Canada in March 2023, making it the 10th foreign country where the bakery chain has established a presence. Canada is a significant market for Paris Baguette, as it is part of the English-speaking region and is recognized as the world’s second-largest franchise industry after the United States. The bakery chain is ramping up its expansion efforts in North America and Europe, having entered the UK market in October of last year.

The store, located on the first floor of the Yonge Sheppard Centre in Toronto, is expected to facilitate the expansion of Paris Baguette’s presence in North America, according to SPC’s statement.

In a press release, the South Korean bakery-café chain said it plans to open ‘at least’ seven stores in Canada and a further 64 in the US by the end of 2023 as part of an ambitious target to reach 1,000 stores across North America by 2030.

Paris Baguette has traditionally opened directly managed stores when entering overseas markets, but for its debut in Canada, the Korean bakery chain has opted to open a franchise location. With its extensive experience in franchising in the United States, Paris Baguette has decided to actively develop its franchise business in Canada from the outset.

The company has been preparing for this move since 2020, including establishing a local corporation, to ensure a smooth entry into the Canadian market.

According to an SPC official, “Canada is a strategically important market in Paris Baguette’s global business strategy, as it is geographically close to the United States while also catering to the French community.”

The first Paris Baguette location in Canada will offer freshly baked breads, salads, sandwiches, and the popular Strawberry Soft Cream Cake, among other items.

SPC has been rapidly expanding its bakery business in North America and Europe. In line with its goal of increasing the number of Paris Baguette outlets to over 1,000 by 2030 in North America, the food and beverage giant plans to open four more stores in the US this month.

Paris Baguette has been named one of the top 500 franchises by Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500®, and intends to maintain its growth in Canada by prioritizing communities and offering them the finest decadent desserts, freshly baked breads, and other culinary delights created by skilled bakers, cake makers, and baristas.
