The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill, the award-winning Mediterranean fast-casual franchise, has signed a master franchise agreement with the Beharry Group to bring the brand to Guyana and seven Caribbean countries. The deal hands regional development to one of the Caribbean’s most established operators and deepens the brand’s international pipeline alongside recent openings in Canada, Australia and Egypt.
Headquartered in Guyana and chaired by Suresh Beharry, the Beharry Group is an 80-year-old conglomerate with more than 4,000 employees and interests spanning banking, manufacturing, insurance and quick-service restaurants. The agreement covers Guyana, Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago — eight markets in total.
The Beharry Group is already a successful Yum! Brands multi-unit franchisee, operating 12 KFC and 10 Pizza Hut restaurants with six more units in active development. The Great Greek represents the company’s first move into the fast-casual segment, a strategic diversification toward higher-quality, made-to-order dining.
“Mediterranean cuisine is increasingly popular around the world.”
Development kicks off with a flagship restaurant in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital and largest city, expected to open later this year. The Beharry Group plans to add corporate units and recruit sub-franchisees to extend the brand across the remaining seven nations.
The Great Greek is an affiliated brand of United Franchise Group, operating within its Big Flavor Brands food division.
This agreement is a masterclass in how global brands scale through master franchising — awarding country- or region-level rights to a deep-pocketed local operator who already understands real estate, supply chains and consumer behavior. It is the same model fueling expansion across Asia and the Middle East, where conglomerates and family offices are securing rights to Western concepts. For investors evaluating Mediterranean and better-for-you formats, the Beharry deal validates demand for premium fast casual far beyond the United States, echoing moves like &pizza’s first international franchise deal and M&S’s Southeast Asia partnership.
