UK celebrity Victoria Beckham is to open a store in Asia – but remains mum for now on just where.
It will be Beckham’s second store and follows a meteoric rise of the fashion label bearing her name. In just five years Beckham has boosted sales of clothing bearing her name y 2900 per cent, from £1 million per annum to £30 million.
In an article in the UK’s Retail Gazette, Beckham said Asia was a natural choice, given the continent’s creativity.
“I love the women there. They really understand fashion and style; they’re beautiful. So why not Asia?”
But Retail Gazette observed: “It’s unlikely the move is based purely on the cultural inspiration, as China prepares to overtake the US as the largest retail market by 2018.”
Beckham revealed her Asia ambition after a successful show during New York Fashion Week.
“I’m selling my clothes, not just in New York and London, I’m selling clothes all around the world,” she said.
Beckham already has a flagship store in London’s Dover Street, designed by architect Farshid.
Beckham’s equally famous husband, footballer David, has strong ties with Asia, including a marketing contract with Las Vegas Sands corporation.
