The Scandinavian fashion retailer Monki has announced the opening of two new flagship stores in Asia in 2014: one in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) on 30 April and the other in Beijing (China) later in the year. Since the launch of their business in Hong Kong in 2010, Monki has grown rapidly in Asia, opening more than 20 stores only in 2013. In addition to the mentioned flagship store openings, Monki plans to open new shops in the following Chinese cities this year: Jinan, Kunming, Zhuhai, Nanning and Chongqing.

“There is a high demand for our fashion in Asia, so to be able to announce the opening of two new flagship stores in top locations in Beijing and Kuala Lumpur, is a proud moment for Monki,” says Chief Operating Officer, Lea Rytz Goldman.

The new Monki stores will present the award-winning Sea of Scallops store concept, which has been nominated at last year’s WGSN Global Fashion Awards. Catharina Frankander, creative head behind the design of the Sea of Scallops concept: “Our design is about telling stories and creating new worlds. These worlds should be particularly colorful, extraordinarily beautiful and mysterious at the same time. We use playful exaggerations, surprising shapes and spatially misleading levels that cause a surreal effect and play an important role in the brand identity of the label. “

Monki is owned by H&M and has more than 80 stores in nine European countries, Japan, China, Hong Kong and is further operating an online store that delivers to 18 European countries.
