The Three Best Coding Languages for Children

Best Coding Languages for Children

Did you know that the software market in Asia is projected to reach US$96.30bn in 2022? While not insignificant, this is still only a relatively small portion of the global software market. With about 4.7 billion people and representing nearly sixty percent of the world’s total population, this market is about to grow substantially in the coming years.

Move over language centers and academies that teach English and Chinese. Coding is the next biggest international language for children and alike. So if coding is fast becoming an international language, what programming languages are most popular today?

According to Logiscool, Europe’s largest and most successful coding franchise for children with over 190 schools and present in over 34 countries, the top three programming languages today are Stagescript, Python, and C# (C Sharpe).

StageScript

This is the JavaScript language optimized by Logiscool to teach children the basics of computer programming. It is used on Logiscool’s special education platform, Scoolcode on 3 levels: BLOX, MIX and TEXT. Children begin with visual coding, then a blended MIX stage were visual coding and text based coding are shown on the same screen side-by-side. This feature is quite unique to Logiscool’s proprietary ScoolCode platform that is available to their students and teaching staff alike. When children reach the TEXT level, they can change from the simplified coding language to ‘real world’ coding languages.

Python

Even though it has been around for over 20 years, Python is still one of the most popular text-based programming languages. It is an open-source programming language that is easy to integrate with web services, machine learning, deep-learning applications, and data structures. With Python you can create 2D imaging, 3D animations, and videos. Even science can benefit from this programming language, such as Abacus and FreeCAD. Because of its versatility and simplicity, Python is a great choice to teach coding for children.

C# (C-sharp)

A very popular programming language among kids is C#. C# is one of the languages that Unity and Godot, the two big game engines understand. With Unity and Godot, children can program their own 2 or 3D computer games.
