Indonesian convenience store chain Alfamart says it will open 1200 more stores in its home market before the year ends.
And it plans 100 more in the Philippines in the same time period.
At the end of March, Alfamart had 10,068 outlets in Indonesia, 2958 of them franchised and the rest company owned.
“More than 50 per cent will be opened outside Java. We already have a distribution channel in Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Manado, and the latest one, in February, [in] Batam,” said president director of Alfamart Sumber Alfaria Trijaya, Hans Prawira.
Alfamart Retail Asia, which operates the Philippines network, is 35 per cent owned by the Indonesian company and 65 per cent by SM Group subsidiary SM Retail Supermarket.
It entered the market this year and has 60 stores operating already.
Prawira said the openings would strengthen the brand’s presence in Asia and help boost Indonesian exports.
At home, Alfamart also operates 809 Alfamidi stores and 48 Lawson outlets.
